Instructions for Mopar reluctor with additional slots
This reluctor has been modified with an additional 4 keyway slots. These slots are positioned at both 10 and 15 degrees before and after the reluctor tips. This will allow you to adjust the position of the rotor in reference to the distributor cap in order to correct any phasing problems that might exist.
BB Mopar should use one of the slots machined before a tip. Either the 10 or the 15 degree before tip slot works well with the BB distributor which is rotating counter-clockwise.
SB Mopar distributors rotate clockwise and they should use one of the slots machined after a tip. There are either 5, 10 or 15 degrees after the tip slots from which to choose from.
Remember, this illustration shows the back or bottom side of the reluctor. Everything is reversed when you install it correctly. Therefore, when correctly installed in a BB distributor the rotor will point past the #1 distributor tower when the #1 plug fires. As the vacuum advance is activated, the rotor will swing backwards toward the #1 tower and end up on the back side of it. Ideally you should set the rotor so that at full vacuum advance the rotor is as far on one side of the tower as it is on the other side of the tower to start with. Splitting the difference like this means that the rotor stays the farthest away from the adjacent towers and thereby minimizes the possibility of a cross-fire.
